Ireland tid bits

When I book a trip for you, we will sit down and go over where you are visiting, how to get around, and important things to know when traveling. Here are a few helpful pieces of information when visiting Ireland:

  1. Language: English is the official language, and Irish (Gaeilge) is also spoken, especially in Gaeltacht regions. English is widely used throughout the country.

  2. Currency: Ireland uses the Euro (EUR). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it's advisable to carry some cash for smaller establishments and transportation.

  3. Cultural Etiquette: Irish people are known for their friendliness. It's customary to greet with a friendly "Hello" or "Hi." Saying "Please" and "Thank you" is expected, and respect for personal space is important.

  4. Tipping: Tipping is common in restaurants and for services. Leaving a 10% to 15% tip for good service is typical, although it's not obligatory.

  5. Pub Culture: Irish pubs are a significant part of the culture. Enjoy traditional Irish music, craic (conversation and fun), and perhaps a pint of Guinness or Irish whiskey.

  6. Weather: Ireland's weather can be unpredictable. Bring clothing for various conditions and expect occasional rain, especially on the west coast.

  7. Driving: If you plan to drive, remember that traffic travels on the left side of the road. Rent a car with an automatic transmission if you're not comfortable with manual.

  8. Safety: Ireland is considered a safe country for tourists. Standard safety precautions should still be observed, especially in crowded areas and tourist hotspots.

  9. Emergency Services: The emergency number for police, fire, and medical assistance in Ireland is 112.

  10. Countryside: Ireland's countryside is known for its beauty. Explore scenic regions like the Ring of Kerry, the Cliffs of Moher, and the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland.

  11. Pub Hours: Some rural areas have limited opening hours for pubs and restaurants, especially on Sundays and public holidays.

  12. Festivals: Ireland hosts various cultural and music festivals throughout the year, so check for local events during your visit.

  13. Irish History: Explore Ireland's rich history through visits to castles, historic sites, and museums. The country is also known for its literary heritage, with many famous writers.

By keeping these tips in mind, you can fully enjoy Ireland's lush landscapes, historic sites, lively cities, and the warm hospitality of its people while respecting local customs and traditions.
