Countryside Landscape

Road trip

One of the best experiences of my life was a road trip through northern France with my mom. We got off the ferry boat from England and picked up a rental car in Calais. From there, we explored Normandy, Omaha Beach, Saint Malo, art parks in the countryside, Rouen, Mont Saint Michel, and Paris. People often think of only Paris when they think of France, but a road trip through the countryside and smaller cities will open your eyes to the incredible culture, history, beauty, friendly people and atmosphere of a county that I believe is under traveled!

I would love to help you take an adventure through France that will create memories that last a lifetime!

France tid bits

When I book a trip for you, we will sit down and go over where you are vising, how to get around, how to handle the language barrier, and important things to know when traveling. Here are a few helpful things to know when visiting France:

  1. Language: French is the official language, and while many French people speak English, it's helpful to learn a few basic French phrases for courtesy.

  2. Currency: France uses the Euro (EUR). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it's a good idea to carry some cash for smaller establishments and transportation.

  3. Cultural Etiquette: French culture places a strong emphasis on politeness. Greet with a kiss on both cheeks among friends and use polite phrases like "Bonjour" (Good morning) and "S'il vous plaît" (Please).

  4. Tipping: Service charges are usually included in restaurant bills, but it's common to leave a small tip (around 10%) for good service. In bars and cafes, small change is appreciated.

  5. Cuisine: France is known for its culinary excellence. Savor traditional dishes, fine wines, and delectable pastries. Don't forget to try local cheeses and visit outdoor markets.

  6. Transportation: France has an efficient public transportation system, including trains and the Paris Metro. Consider purchasing a transportation pass for convenience.

  7. Museum Reservations: Major attractions like the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower can have long lines. Booking tickets in advance can save time and hassle.

  8. Shopping Hours: Shops in France often close for a few hours during the afternoon, especially in smaller towns. Some may be closed on Sundays.

  9. Safety: France is generally safe for tourists, but it's essential to be cautious with your belongings and aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded areas.

  10. Emergency Services: The emergency number for police, fire, and medical assistance in France is 112.

  11. Regional Diversity: France offers a diverse range of regions, from the bustling city of Paris to the picturesque countryside of Provence and the glamorous French Riviera. Research each area's unique characteristics.

By keeping these aspects in mind, you can fully enjoy France's cultural treasures, culinary delights, and picturesque landscapes while respecting local customs and traditions.
